If you have a market niche in mind, you can still go even more narrow by focuses on a target audience. Keep in mind that is is always best to start narrow with your audience, as you can always broaden your scope as you grow.
The best target audience is…
1. Reasonable sized — This is rarely going to be a problem because its more common that your target is too big. But you never want to find yourself in a situation where your only chasing a limited audience.
2. Accustomed to spending money — Golfers fork over a lot of money to hit the ball farther or straighter. They always have the latest gadgets or biggest drivers in attempt to shave a few shots. These gadgets, clubs, balls and even things like green fees, cost a lot of money. Simply put, golfers spend a lot of money. They are an example of a target audience accustomed to spending money. Hence all the golfing magazines at the newsstands.
3. In line with your personal interests or knowledge — Passion towards your niche can carry you far. People can see through your words and tell fairly easily just how genuine you are. Plus, you will be more motivated to do the daily work required when you are interested in what you’re doing.
4. Beginners — Beginners are easier to wow than those with a lot of experience or knowledge. You’ll find it easier to impress people with something you would typically consider basic when you target newbies. You will also have thew ability to “graduate” them to a higher level. For example, if you put together a book or seminar called Creative Writing for Beginners, you can then have those who complete the course sign up for Advanced Creative Writing.
